After much discussion on a fannish email list, this painful fragment of autobiography was omitted from A Vince Clarke Treasury since it seemed likely to throw that mostly genial collection out of balance. Instead, a separate ebook was prepared by David Langford for any interested friends of Vince and students of British fan history who didn’t have access to the original or one of the many photocopies circulating in fandom – or who just prefer to read it in this form.
Rob Hansen has since posted a number of contemporary letters concerning Vince’s departure from fandom in 1960 and (especially) his return in 1981.
